Hospital Picaso Hosts CME Programme Exploring Advances in Breast Imaging and Multidisciplinary Care

Hospital Picaso successfully organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “Advances in Breast Imaging: From Screening to Surgical Planning” on 18 July 2026. The programme brought together healthcare professionals to discuss the latest developments in breast imaging technology and multidisciplinary breast cancer management.

The programme featured three medical specialists who discussed various aspects of breast cancer patient care:

• Dr. Maninderpal Kaur discussed the expanding role of Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) in breast cancer detection alongside its increasingly widespread clinical applications.

• Dr. Farhana Fadzli presented the topic “From Mammography to Molecular Imaging: Navigating Modern Breast Imaging,” which examined the strengths, limitations, and appropriate indications for mammography, ultrasound, breast MRI, and PET/CT, while introducing cutting-edge technologies such as molecular imaging and artificial intelligence (AI).

• Dr. Ng Char Hong concluded the scientific session by explaining how imaging findings influence surgical planning accuracy and clinical decision-making in breast cancer treatment.

Presentations throughout the programme highlighted the importance of selecting the most appropriate imaging modality according to each patient's profile, recognising that each technique complements one another. Through case-based discussions, participants gained practical insights into clinical referral pathways, screening strategies for high-risk women, the management of dense breasts, and the role of advanced imaging in staging and monitoring therapy response.

An interactive panel and Q&A session further reinforced the critical importance of close multidisciplinary collaboration among radiologists, breast surgeons, and referring physicians in delivering personalised, evidence-based treatment plans.

The hosting of this programme demonstrates Hospital Picaso's ongoing commitment to advancing medical education and elevating standards of breast cancer care to ensure more effective early detection and optimal patient outcomes.

Public Awareness Initiative

To complement this educational initiative, Dr. Farhana Fadzli—who is also the President of the College of Radiology, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia—was featured in a TalkHealthAsia interview titled “Do Mammograms Cause Cancer? Radiologist Busts Common Breast Screening Myths”.

In the session, she addressed common misconceptions surrounding breast cancer screening, including concerns regarding discomfort and radiation exposure from mammograms. She also explained the various types of breast cancer, the challenges of detection in dense breast tissue, screening guidelines based on age and risk factors, and the critical importance of seeking immediate medical consultation upon noticing symptoms such as nipple discharge, persistent rashes, or physical changes in the breast.
